So the sunny weather is back and the kids are just about to depart from school. Team Arbutus love this time of year and we have our fair share of BBQs and events between private parties and weddings.
Here are a few little tips for you this summer when hosting your next Killer BBQ Party.
Don't be afraid to try new things
Get those zingy BBQ sauces and quirky salads recipes out and don't be afraid to try new things. Recently we have found that summer fruit salads mixed with a mayo and cream cheese dressing has gone down a treat especially in the warmer weather as it is so refreshing.
Make sure the grill is hot enough
Hold your hand as low over the coals or the gas as you can and count ‘one Mississippi, two Mississippi…’ until you can’t hold it there any longer. If it’s really a hot one it’s a one or two Mississippi, if it’s a medium fire it’s a three or four. If you get to five or six it’s not warm enough to cook.
Remember to let the meat rest first
When meat comes off the grill it needs to rest for 10 or 15 minutes and it’s very smart to “tent” it in foil, rather than wrapping it. If you let a steak rest the juices will reabsorb into the meat and make it juicier, more tender.
Be prepared
Prepare as much as you can a few hours before the BBQ. These means chopping the salad, preparing the sauces, cooling drinks in the fridge. Trust us, all this makes the stress of hosting a party much more manageable.
Drinks
If like any other party that runs into the early hours of the night, please ensure to have enough beverages for everyone, not forgetting about the guests that don't drink alcohol. Provide cocktails, mocktails, punch and not forgetting the beer.
